Traumatic Brain Injury

A Traumatic Brain Injury, or TBI, occurs when an outside force traumatically injures the brain. This can be caused by falls, vehicle accidents, sports injuries, or force violence. It may or may not result in a loss of consciousness.

General Information About TBI

There may or may not be long-lasting consequences when a child has a brain injury. In some, the full effect of the brain injury may be revealed as the brain matures. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to changes in the child’s behavior, communication, emotions, memory, and ability to think or learn after either a concussion or a more intrusive injury. A TBI can affect a student’s ability to perform in cognitive, behavioral, academic, and social realms.
